The City is seeking tenders for the installation of the trigeneration network, comprising seven plants across central Sydney.

These systems are expected to have a capacity of up to 25 MW by 2015, increasing to at least 330 MW by 2030.

British sustainability expert Allan Jones is leading the plan. Mr Jones has had previous success at the helm of similar projects, having been pivotal in taking the British Borough of Woking completely off the electricity grid in 2006.

The City of Sydney has said that the production of clean energy through trigeneration will lead to a 70 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions in the city by 2030 from levels reported in 2006.
