The event was an opportunity to examine the technical, market and regulatory issues critical to the success of the industry, and increase public awareness of the opportunities to use geothermal energy.
Day one of the symposium was opened by Mark Ballersteros, Chair of the West Australian Geothermal Energy Symposium (WAGES) Committee, who welcomed delegates to the event and highlighted some of the achievements of the geothermal industry during the past year.
Susan Jeanes, Chief Executive of the Australian Geothermal Energy Association, then provided delegates with an insightful perspective on the Australian geothermal industry.
After lunch, presentations on building the framework for the broader geothermal industry and a panel session were followed by networking opportunities.

On day two, the focus switched to case studies of geothermal projects in the Perth Basin region and shallow geothermal applications.
The conference closed with presentations on the future direction of geothermal, and a final address from Western Australian Energy Minister Peter Collier.
