The Macarthur Wind Farm has a planned capacity of 365 MW, and if constructed will feature 174 Suzlon S88 turbines. It would take approximately three years to build.

The project is proposed to be constructed under a joint venture (JV) between AGL and Meridian Energy Limited, with AGL taking all energy output and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) generated.

AGL said in a statement that contractual arrangements for the wind farm were subject to a number of conditions, including approval by the boards of the JV partners. The statement said that a key consideration for AGL’s board was certainty around the final form of the proposed Renewable Energy Target (RET) legislation.

AGL has also announced that it has entered into agreements for the construction of the Hallett 5 Wind Farm in the midnorth of South Australia.

Construction of the 52.5 MW wind farm will begin in July and is expected to be completed by December 2011.

Hallett 5 will consist of 25 Suzlon S88 V3 3.1 MW turbines. It will incur a total development cost of approximately $120 million.

AGL Managing Director Michael Fraser said that the construction of the Hallett 5 Wind Farm was necessary to supply its long-term renewable energy contracts, which include the South Australian desalination plant, the Victorian desalination plant, and the recently announced Sugarloaf Pipeline contract.
