The Australian Centre for Renewable Energy (ACRE) has been launched at the North Queensland Renewable Business Roundtable in Canberra by Treasurer Wayne Swan and the Minister for Resources and Energy Martin Ferguson.
The Centre is part of the Rudd Government’s $4.5 billion Clean Energy Initiative and will aim to help commercialise renewable energy.
The ACRE Interim Advisory Board will now start work on priority legislation for the establishment of ACRE, which will be considered by the Parliament in November.

Minister Ferguson said that ACRE’s first task would be to make funding recommendations on the most prospective solar applications received under the Renewable Energy Demonstration Program.
The solar applications were promised by the Renewable Energy Committee at the time of the 2009 Budget.
