Coming up in EcoGeneration July/August 2012: solar
EcoGeneration — May/June 2012
EcoGeneration previews the profile of Willoughby City Council’s Albert Avenue Car Park Solar Project that will appear in the July/August edition of the magazine. The project was made possible thanks to development and construction by Solgen Energy, Schott solar photovoltaic modules and SMA grid-connected inverters.
Highly durable German-engineered polycrystalline panels produced by Schott were used for electrical power generation at the Albert Avenue Car Park Solar Project.
144 of these modules were mounted on a customer-designed structural steel frame which also acts as a roof for the top level of the Albert Avenue Car Park at Chatswood.
The solar array was designed and installed by Solgen Energy in 2011.
The system was divided into three sub-arrays that were each connected to German-manufactured SMA Sunny Mini Central 10000TL inverters. The inverters convert the direct current electricity to alternating current electricity consumable within building circuitry. The three systems feed the three-phase power board of the nearby Chatswood Child Care Centre.

The array itself is made of 144 panels spanning approximately 40 m, providing car shelter for around 22 car spaces.
The plant is expected to produce
55.6 megawatt hours of electricity per annum. It is connected to Ausgrid Energy’s power grid at 415 volts.
Willoughby City Council is planning to expand the existing system across the entire car park. The solar project will be constructed in phases over several years, and the final size of the photovoltaic system will be 313 kilowatts.
