Hosted by the Clean Energy Council, the 31st annual conference for the Appropriate Technology Retailers Association of Australia (ATRAA) will provide Australian solar businesses with the opportunity to address key issues affecting the solar industry. The conference represents the only forum where Australian installers, distributors and suppliers of solar energy products and services, both in Australia and abroad, come together to discuss business.

ATRAA 2008 will run from Thursday 31 July to Saturday 2 August at the Sebel and Citigate Hotel on Melbourne’s Albert Park, and will be packed with keynote addresses, specialised industry forums and technical presentations. Conference highlights include sessions on the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts rebate programs, new products and design, business leadership training as well as the ATRAA business sessions. In addition, Minister for Climate Change Environment and Innovation Gavin Jennings will be addressing ATRAA delegates.

The conference will feature a look back at Photovoltaics 2007 - 08 by The University of New South Wales’ Muriel Watt. Ian Dawson’s ‘the Good the Bad and the Ugly’ update, a session on ‘Exceptional and Innovative Designs and Installations’ by Rod Menzies, a utilities and a regulators panel comprised of Darren Margerison, David Wilkinson, Paul Brownlee as well as sessions on emerging technologies and energy efficiency.

In addition to a packed technical program, the conference will feature a substantial social program, including a cocktail party to welcome delegates and a formal dinner.

Once again, the conference will follow the highly acclaimed Professional Development day on 30 July, which will be followed by drinks in the evening.

The Professional Development day will focus on current technical PV system installation issues which impact installers and designers. Run by Nigel Wilmot, Ted Spooner, Mike Russell and Glen Morris, some of the topics covered include inverters, PV arching, fusing and module certification as well as batteries and plate expansion and a session for newly-accredited installers.
