On Sydney’s Lower North Shore 146 Schott Poly 170 multi-crystalline solar modules were installed at the Pre-school to year 12 Redlands School. The modules are ideally suited to Australia’s harsh climate and have a proven record in terms of durability and efficiency. The modules are built around iso-textured cells enhancing efficiencies and the modules have been awarded top ratings in a number of independent studies and surveys.

Comprehensive, web-enabled monitoring equipment was built into the system, allowing staff and students to access real time energy generation statistics, store data and analyse the results.

The project is expected to save 43 tonnes per annum of greenhouse gas emissions.

The solar power installation was commissioned as part of Greening Redlands, a program driven by the school’s students, teachers and parents that has made a significant step towards environmental sustainability for the school community.

Success of the project to date

With the comprehensive monitoring equipment incorporated into the school curriculum, the project has resulted not only in reduced energy costs for the school, but also educational outcomes for students and an increased awareness of green energy in the community.

Redlands School Principal Dr Peter Lennox said Redlands recognised the immediate benefits associated with reducing energy costs and greenhouse gases, as well as the opportunity to educate a new generation of climate change savvy leaders.
